Mango Monday (pre-workout snack)
Good morning!
This is what I usually snack on if I get up around 9am and run around 11am. This good for any in-between meal scenario. Usually for me that is the weekend when my comfy sleep schedule doesn’t allow for the standard 3 square meal routine ( aka getting up too late for breakfast but too early for lunch)
This is kinda of a light breakfast nibbler to keep me hydrated ( 1/2 mango)...

Preserve Your Hair-Style Workouts: Incline Walking
Just paid a pretty penny to get my hair done, one thing I highly recommend is incline walking. You won’t break a sweat and ruin your hair but you will get a nice toning workout as you walk.
Find a nice trail with some hills
Inclines are perfect for sculpting your leg and butt muscles
Use a pair of very light weights (1lb-3lbs) this will help to keep arm muscles engaged but not fatigued

Pre Workout Style Routine
Put your hair in rollers the night before. Take rollers out in the morning but do not loosen curls! This will help to keep hair off neck and scalp and away from any sweat and body heat. Also, Pin back hair away from forehead (aka the sweat zone)
This is my trick for keeping my press and curl as long as possible.
Health before hair,
Racquel

As promised....
So I didn’t drink this one as fast :) I usually use strawberry greek yogurt but today I decided to buy plain and try it since I already add strawberries and other fruit to the smoothie. It is not as sweet as my usual ones but still taste pretty good and with less sugar.
Ingredients:
Soy Milk (about a cup)
Plain Greek Yogurt ( about a cup)
1 banana
Handful of strawberries

Smoothie Droplets
I started the day off right! Wanted to share this banging strawberry-banana smoothie I made with y’all but it was so darn good I drank it before I could even reach for my camera. Sorry! Next time I’ll take one before I leave kitchen

Hair Style Preservation Workout: Pilates!
I personally am a cardio feign but when I am trying not to sweat out a press n’ curl I take a pilates class. It still given my muscles a nice work-out without the sweat-out!
This class instructor gave us a nice stretch and then did a nice ab and lower body workout relying on body weight and resistance.
Working Out on Your Newly Minted Straight Hair
So I decided to straighten out my curls for a class picture and the two presentations I also had that day. But just because my hair is done, doesn’t mean I don’t workout.
When I was in high school, I sometimes envied those girls who always wore their hair straight, while my commitment to track kept my hair bound in braids. But sometimes you can have your cake and eat it too.

Re-living the Best Breakfast of ALL Time!
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I took a mini-vacay to Rhode Island on my break between semesters and decided to treat myself to all this amazingness like everyday I was there. The only thing that would have made it better would be if it was a breakfast in bed experience..foodgasm!
Complete balanced breakfast:
Protein: spinach omelet
Fiber: Whole wheat english muffin
Sweet Carbs:...

So as promised it did arrive on Friday, today, and with a heartfelt note about health before hair. I am not working out today but I do intend to try it out tomorrow to see if this thing was worth the $ I spent for it.

Save Your Do- GYM Wrap
I have actually been wearing my hair more straight now. I am 100% natural, so by straight I mean pressing it and praying it lasts for a long enough time….but I don’t let that stop my work-out routine. I just purchased one of these gym-wraps….it should be here by Friday so I’ll test it this weekend!
Updates coming soon!
Kickboxing or Spinning? Somebody please help me decide!

Benefits of Red Wine has competition!
This weekend I was showered with wine selections as I celebrated my friends 24th birthday at Archetypus in Edgewater, NJ (the restaurant’s interior is designed like the inside of a cave, very cozy Flintstone feel).
I tried every type of wine they had guilt free because of all the known benefits of wine where my BFF Shardae (Rihanna Red hair girl) didn’t have any! Instead she had a...

Post-Long Run Smoothie: Choco-banana
Hey Folks,
This is a twist on an old favorite snack I picked up from my long-distance runner teammates in college. Our coach also recommended that we replenish with a chocolate milk and a banana. Today I blended them both to a delicious smooth mix I drink only when I know I really worked out out to the maximum!

Post Work-Oout Lean Meal Dinner
I am trying to prepare for my upcoming potential internship *fingers still crossed* where I will be a marketing intern and personal-train women, so I have to make sure I am in tip-top shape too.
Post-workout dinner meals is the best time to have lean protein and vegetables. Tonight I had some well-seasoned salmon, grilled eggplant (courtesy of my George-Foreman Grill) and steamed carrots &...

I did June Ambrose's Stiletto-Floor Towel Workout
On VH1’s show Styled by June, celebrity stylist June Ambrose physically trains rapper Trina to strut in poised-proper fashion for a photo shoot June is styling her for.
Ironically enough I did a cross-training workout this morning at NYSC which incorporated the exact same moves! I realized quickly why Trina was wobbling-wobbling like a duck….

Happy Easter to all my Island Bunnies: Bunny +...
Americans get the easter bunny & chocolate but we Jamaicans just get the bun and not the bunny, and cheese and no chocolate. What’s up with that!? So this Easter I set out to discover why.
Like many English traditions, this was also brought to Jamaica, their colony at the time. England was influenced by an ancient Babylon tradition of offering baked buns to a heaven goddess. In...

Runner's Relaxation: A Paradise Trail for the...
Beating the pavement can be monotonous: red traffic lights slowing you down, drivers nearly running you over, dodging dog crap and many other perils runners face when all we want is a place to peacefully stride.
Tucked away in Englewood, NJ is my runner’s paradise, soft cushy dirt trails which are great for me knees, instead of solid concrete which is never good on your joints for longer...

Pre-workout Snack for Peanut Lovers!
Over lunch during our break at B-school, one of my fellow MBA students popped in to grab lunch and then workout. You should have seen my face! But she said “If I don’t workout, I’ll pass out on the treadmill.” Good, point we don’t want that! BUT you really don’t want to eat a bowl of carbohydrates either because you will essentially won’t burn fat while...

Cycle To Save Your Knees!
Hey All,
In an effort to stop my running addiction I have been trying a variety of other fun things to do besides always run. Granted I think nothing can ever replace a runner’s high it does take a toll on a runner’s knees. So this week my running replacement was cycling.
I took a 60 minute class which was really torture but the good news is that it only took about 4 classes for my...

Zumba: not as easy as they make it seem!
So my Saturday one-credit class has ended and now I can finally return to my morning gym regime . I figured I would ease into my weekend with a fun and friendly Zumba workout. Ha! There was no fun and friendly to befound.
By song 2 I was already warming up and by 3 I was stripping my extra shirt off. By 4 my water bottle was empty!! God why didn’t I fill that thing up all the way!? I paid...
